Double Vision Jazz Ensemble brings original contemporary jazz into concerts, educational programs, museums, galleries, and community settings through performance, improvisation, storytelling, and creative collaboration.
ABOUT DOUBLE VISION

Double Vision Jazz Ensemble is a contemporary jazz quartet co-led by composers and improvisers Hank Hehmsoth and John Mills. The ensemble serves as a core performing group for H Project Performing Arts Association, bringing original music, improvisation, education, Texas music history, and interdisciplinary arts programming to audiences throughout Texas.
Rooted in creative interaction and spontaneous invention, Double Vision explores the full range of modern jazz expression while connecting with the places, people, and stories that shape our musical culture.

Bring Double Vision to Your Community
Double Vision Jazz Ensemble is listed on the Texas Commission on the Arts 2026–2028 Texas Touring Roster. Eligible Texas presenters may be able to apply for TCA Arts Respond Performance Support for qualifying programs.
Programs can be customized for concert halls, colleges and universities, museums, galleries, festivals, schools, libraries, cultural organizations, and community partners.

Hank Hehmsoth
PIANO + COMPOSER
Co-leader, pianist, composer, educator, visual artist, and HPPAA artistic director. His work connects original jazz with visual art, Texas music history, education, and interdisciplinary practice.
John Mills
SAXOPHONE + FLUTE + COMPOSER
Co-leader, composer, saxophonist, and flutist whose writing and expressive playing add melodic depth, color, and a long shared musical language to the ensemble.
Utah Hamrick
BASS
Anchors the rhythm section with harmonic depth, flexibility, and a strong collaborative approach across concert, educational, and interdisciplinary settings.
Aaron Easley
DRUMS
Brings rhythmic energy, responsiveness, and improvisational imagination to the ensemble’s performances and collaborative programs.

Double Vision is supported by H Project Performing Arts Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization. Projects have received support and recognition through the Texas Commission on the Arts, City of Austin Elevate program, and the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.

Learning Through Performance
Double Vision integrates performance with learning through youth jazz workshops, university residencies, composition and improvisation clinics, jazz-history programs, and interdisciplinary art-and-music experiences.
Programs emphasize listening, creativity, collaboration, improvisation, and cultural history—giving students and community audiences meaningful ways to participate in the music.

“Water Dance” explores contrast — turbulence and stillness, motion and suspension, energy and reflection. The performance is accompanied by Hank Hehmsoth’s abstract visual work, extending the music into a unified art-and-sound experience.
