The title track from the 2024 album Blu-Escape, an interdisciplinary project connecting original jazz composition, improvisation, recording, and abstract visual art.
Premiered by Double Vision at The Clarion, Water Dance explores turbulence and stillness, motion and suspension, energy and reflection.
Hehmsoth’s arrangement joins Eddie Durham’s “Topsy” with Thelonious Monk’s “Teo,” a contrafact based on the “Topsy” chord progression. The work connects the broadcast conversation to Double Vision’s October 10 appearance at the Eddie Durham Jazz Festival in San Marcos.
