Double Vision + Invoke Live at Monks Jazz
Double Vision Jazz Ensemble and Invoke joined forces at Monks Jazz in Austin for an eight-piece collaboration of original music, new arrangements, improvisation, and chamber-jazz writing.
Presented by H Project Performing Arts Association in partnership with Austin Jazz Society. The concert was HPPAA’s third 2026 AACME Elevate event and also received project-specific support from the Texas Commission on the Arts through its Arts Respond Project program.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION
Jazz quartet meets string quartet
Double Vision + Invoke brought together two Austin-based ensembles in an eight-piece setting: jazz quartet and string quartet.
The October 14 performance featured new arrangements and original compositions by Hank Hehmsoth and John Mills, connecting contemporary jazz, improvisation, composition, and string writing.
The project expanded Double Vision’s established quartet language through the additional colors, textures, and ensemble possibilities of Invoke’s violin, viola, cello, banjo, and mandolin instrumentation.

A live collaboration with a continuing public life
The October 14 concert was developed not simply as a single performance, but as a documented HPPAA public arts project whose music and collaborative work remain accessible after the event.
New collaborative work
The project developed and presented original music and new arrangements for the combined forces of jazz quartet and string quartet.
Artist support
HPPAA supported artist compensation and rehearsal work for the eight-performer collaboration, allowing the music to be developed before the public performance.
Audience connection
The program brought together contemporary jazz and chamber-music practices, connecting audiences and artistic communities that do not always occupy the same performance space.
Performance archive
The complete ten-composition concert was documented as a public video archive, preserving the performance, composers, personnel, and collaborative project beyond the event itself.
